In addition to aesthetics, the field of ethics deals with questions of values; These areas form a branch of philosophy called axiology.

Ethics seeks to solve the problems of human morality by defining terms such as good and bad, good and bad, virtue and vice, justice and crime. As a field of intellectual research, moral philosophy is linked to the areas of moral psychology, descriptive ethics, and value theory.

Metaethics on the theoretical meaning and yardstick of moral judgments and how their true values if any can be determined;

Normative ethics relating to the practical means of determining moral action;

Applied ethics, which relates to what a person is required (or authorized) to do in a particular situation or area of activity.

History of ethics

Ethics have existed since time immemorial, especially in classical Greece. Philosophers such as Plato (c. 427-347 BC) and his pupil Aristotle (384-322 BC) studied human behavior. And also,  the codes on which it is based.

His reflections are found in the Platonic dialogues of Gorgias and Phaedo and his republic or in the famous Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle, the first genuinely ethical treatise in history.

In the following centuries, in the Middle Ages, Christianity penetrated with its moral vision in almost all fields and knowledge. Therefore,  He defined faith as the ultimate goal of human existence and expressed it in the biblical gospels as a code of conduct.

Then, the role of ethics consisted in the correct interpretation of Sacred Scripture, composing the path of Christianity from its truth. During this period, the works of religious thinkers like Augustine (354-430) and Thomas Aquinas (1224-1274) stood out.

Modernity and a humanist vision have broken with this religious and ancient tradition. Therefore,  need has arisen to create a new ethical model corresponding to reason and to the place that a person occupies today as a center of creativity in culture.

Great modern philosophers such as René Descartes (1596-1650), Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677) and David Hume (1711-1776) have dealt with this complex subject. But it was Emmanuel Kant (1724-1804) made the tremendous modern ethical revolution with his idea of the categorical imperative.

Types of ethics

Therefore,  are as many “types” of ethics as there are areas of life that can be subject to moral judgment. Wherever a moral dilemma arises, the ethical question always arises. We can therefore talk about it:

Religious ethics. Therefore,  which comes from organized religion and follows a certain moral and cultural tradition. For example, we can speak of Christian ethics, especially when compared to Islamic or Jewish ethics.

Examples of ethics

Various Western public figures call for abortion legislation that allows for orderly, legal, hygienic and responsible abortion, as happens regularly but secretly in most countries of the hemisphere and sometimes leads to death in many countries. and serious harm to women without proper medical care. On the other hand, vicious circles demand that it remain illegal, as any abortion ends with the possibility of birth and life by a conceived person of totally innocent origin, deliberate or not, as a result of trauma. What rights should the state protect: the rights of a pregnant woman who is the owner of herself and her destiny; Or a fetus that still has no voice?

Carnivorous diet. It is no secret that farm animals that sell meat and other animal products are often bred intensively. in the worst hygienic conditions, And also, comparable only to torture. People. So, is it ethical to eat meat from animals that have been treated in this way. And also,  Is vegetarianism the only honest way to eat.
